This new, thoroughly modern book on the cars from Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini SpA attempts to do but two things. To further the enthusiasts' understanding of how that company has worked and to fill in information gaps about the cars. To show off the cars' attractive (and sometimes ugly) design and technical features. Obviously, we feel that it succeeds in those two counts. It does not have pretensions towards a full history (whatever that may be) nor does it pontifi-cate on the finer fractions of top speed or debate the finality of which car is best. It gives lots of history by way of new and old information about the cars and the people who made them and the circumstances uncer which they were con-structed. It illustrates that information with fresh photographs, company sales material anc other emphemera. It comes closer to Lamborghini than has any other book in the past. There's an introduction, production details, followed by a long 'Chronology' of the whys and wherefores of the cars' development. Then there's a car model by car model illustratec analysis from the very first 350 GTV throuch to the latest Jalpa of early 1981, using some 300 photographs. Finally, there's a gallery of extra 'special interest' Lamborghiniana not directly related to the mainstream of car production. It's a tribute to some exciting automobili from the great but mysterious Italian alternative.
The delicate 'cutaway' of a Lamborghini Espada used for the dust jacket, courtesy of Bruno Belli, is an unusual choice perhaps. The car was, however, the mainstay of production during the most difficult years in the 1970s. Twice as many Espadas (over 1200) have been made than any other Lamborghini.
