The collection of British motor cycles under the roof of the National Motorcycle Museum is unsurpassed — most were classics of their times and many are rare one-offs, specials or prototypes; all have been lovingly restored to 'showroom' condition, in full running order. In Classic British Motor Cycles: The Final Years, twenty-five bikes have been selected from the collection to show the diversity of the machines built in an era when the British industry was at its peak and supplied 90 per cent of the world demand. Many are familiar, like the sidec6r man's favourite, the Panther 120S, or the ton up boy's delight, the BSA Gold Star. Not all are roadgoing machines—the Manx Norton and the 'Boy Racer' AJS 7R are covered, along with the Greeves ISDT Special and the Triumph Trophy. The profile of each bike is illustrated with a large colour portrait and several black and white photographs specially commissioned for this book, while the commentary by Bob Currie recalls a model's design, construction, performance and history. Classic British Motor Cycles: The Final Years is an invaluable reference work for anyone who is interested in bike restoration or in the history of the products of the British motor cycle industry. It is published in association with the National Motorcycle Museum.
