Since 1968, when the Ford Escort recorded its first rally win on the Circuit of Ireland event, the model has carved for itself a uniquely prominent role in the history of world motorsport. The Escort, in all its forms, has proved amazingly adaptable and has probably taken part in more types of motorsport than any other car, with the possible exception of the Mini.

This is the complete story of the Works Escorts - cars prepared and entered or sponsored by the Ford Motor Company - from the Escort Twin-Cam through the RS models and Mexico to the RS 1700T project of the early eighties. Although of course this is mainly a detailed record of the car and its development, between these covers will also be found the story of the individuals and teams whose efforts, skill and enthusiasm made the Escort's remarkable success possible.
