Before cars were equipped with fuel injectors and engine management systems, there was a special breed of automobile called muscle cars. They had no-nonsense high-performance engines, Hurst, shifters, hood tachs, oversized air intakes, and mag wheels. Their only "engine management system" was a heavy right foot. And when that foot stomped on the gas, fat tires painted bum-out graffiti on city streets. Muscle cars didn't deliver fuel economy and room for the family. They delivered raw power that made every city street a drag strip. In the MBI classic Mighty Muscle Cars, author Henry Rasmussen captures the essence of what made these cars so special, including brawny engines, meaty tires, custom paint, and special-edition monikers. The muscle cars featured here were designed with a simple, single focus: pavement-chewing performance. They were truly a special breed.
