This volume is the successor to author Anders Ditlev Clausager’s book Original MG T-Series, which was first published in 1989 and was constantly in demand and in print for 30 years until 2018, when work on the present project got under way. While the previous book contained 104 pages and 150 colour pictures, this revised and enlarged version runs to 160 pages, with more than 340 illustrations.
The aim remains the same, namely to provide a detailed guide, in words and pictures, to correct factory specification and equipment of all models of the MG T-Series cars, from TA to TF1500, including the TA Tickford drophead coupé. However, for this book the cars featured have been photographed in considerably greater detail, providing more evidence of what is original and what is not in almost all respects. Body and exterior trim, chassis, interior furnishings and trim, dashboard, instruments and controls, lighting and electrics, brakes, steering and suspension, weather equipment, engine and transmission, paint and trim colours, options and tuning packages – all are covered, right down to the toolkit.
In addition, there are two new sections: firstly a historical introduction describing all the models of MG Midget – M-type, C-type, D-type, J-types and P-types – that came before the T-Series; and secondly a survey of all the special-bodied T-Series cars from around the world, whether one-offs or produced in numbers.
Eleven outstanding examples of the cars are featured in specially commissioned colour photography by the acclaimed photographer Simon Clay, and there is also a wide selection of archive images.
What all this adds up to is an up-to-date, larger replacement for Clausager’s classic book on those evergreen T-Series MGs. It will appeal to owner, enthusiast and buyer alike, giving even more of the information and detail that they so keenly demand.
