Any piece of writing about the fastest car in an Italian manufacturer's range is likely to generate enthusiasm. When it's a book about the fastest model from Ferrari, that enthusiasm becomes almost euphoric.
The name alone, Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer, undoubtedly first enraptured Mel Nichols. But once he had driven all the production versions, and some of the 'specials', he knew he was committed to the future writing of its history. Fastest car in the world it may not be, but no-one can deny its beauty of line and function.
The Berlinetta Boxer created several firsts for Ferrari when it was launched as a production car in 1973. Notably, it was the first mid-engined, flat-12 cylinder road car to be produced.
