When we hear the name 'Lincoln' we think first of the American president (1809-1865) and hero who released the slaves from bondage, but also of the car named for him by the company's founder Henry Leland, as a tribute from a dedicated admirer. We also know that since the 1930s, American presidents have favored the Lincoln as their official transportation. What more need be said: Lincoln is the luxury brand on the American automobile market.
It fell to Jacques A. Nasser, head of Ford's Auto Division, to add a new product to this classic brand's model program: the Lincoln Navigator, an off-road vehicle of considerable size, trimmed in fine wood and leather, with a 5.4-liter engine and measuring 205 x 80 x 73 inches in length, height and width —the only credible mode of travel between one's country club on Long Island and one's penthouse in Manhattan. Now the LS 6 and LS 8 have also joined the Lincoln program and made the company once again an 'in' label for younger buyers. Ford plans to attract new customers all over the world to its noble brand with the aid of the LS models. Jacques A. Nasser: „We know that the Lin-coln brand has many admirers for whom the Town-car or the Continental are simply too large and too dignified. Many of these potential customers have driven European imports for some years and would gladly return to an American model if only an attractive one were available." This is where the"American interpretation of the international luxury car", as Nasser puts it, is intended to fill the gap.
