This title in the very successful Great Marques series is devoted to BMW, one of the worlds most famous car manufacturers. The roots of this Munich company go back to the Wartburgs and Dixis at the turn of the century, but probably the most significant early vehicles were the magnificent 327 and 328 sports cars of the 1930s. Since World War 2, BMW has become a major force in the industry; the company not only makes saloons renowned for their quality and high performance, but was also responsible for the astonishing 3.0 CSL and 320i competition cars which dominated international touring car racing during the 1970s. This superbly illustrated book describes all these exceptional cars, plus many others. It covers the history of the company from its beginnings to the very latest saloons and dramatically styled Ml sports car which always causes a sensation wherever it goes. In between comes a procession of significant cars: the 5-series saloons, the spectacular 503 and 507 sports cars, the wonderful 2002 which proved such a sales success as well as being a fine competition car, and the extraordinary 3.0 CSL winged coupe. In addition, some of the outstanding engines produced by BMW, including the latest turbocharged Grand Prix unit, are also described. Like the previous books in the series, there are dozens of specially commissioned full-colour photographs of historic vehicles, action shots of competition cars, close-ups of engines, es, teriors and dashboards, plus specification panels on the most important types. Anyone who has been thrilled by the sight of those amazing racing BMWs will enjoy this well-researched automobile history.
