Great British Motorcycles of the 1950s and 1960s

Anotace

The 1950s and 1960s were memorable and occasionally difficult years for the British motor cycle industry. Traditional single and vertical twin bikes dominated the scene and the period is now regarded as a time of great innovation and design flair. However, the decade also had its problematic side as foreign competition gradually began to dominate the market and great British names began to disappear from the scene. Great British Motor Cycles of the Fifties surveys the performance of the great machines of this memorable decade through road tests which are reproduced exactly as they appeared in the journal Motor Cycle and with commentaries by Bob Currie, a leading motor cycle historian. Each model is described in terms of its historical perspective, design features, the changes that were incorporated during its production life, related models and its eventual fate. The models included, range over the motor cycle spectrum, from the workaday BSA Bantam to the forerunners of the modern superbikes built by companies such as Vincent.
